Adam Holý

Adam Holý’s work is characterised by a distinct tension between immediacy and stylisation. He was drawn to physicality, emotion, and situations that can feel both alluring and unsettling. His images move along the boundaries between beauty and discomfort, intimacy and exhibitionism, naturalness and stylisation, without seeking to resolve these oppositions. Holý approached photography as a medium that not only records reality but also brings its contradictions, desires, and uncertainties to the surface. It is precisely this openness and raw energy that give his work its unmistakable visual language.

Bio

Adam Holý (1974–2016) was an acclaimed Czech photographer working across fashion, advertising, portraiture and fine art photography, known for images combining intimate sensuality with expressive intensity and rawness. He collaborated with leading fashion magazines and created photographs for film posters, including Želary, Pelíšky and others. His practice brought together studio portraiture and spontaneous snapshots, while in the final years of his career he increasingly turned towards landscape and social reflection. His work has been presented in numerous exhibitions, and his photographic archive is currently managed by his brother, David Holý.
